THANK YOU
I would like to express a special "thank you" to all who helped us with the fair activities, those who helped at the booth, those who prepared food at the church, and those who donated baked goods for the booth. Also thanks to those who helped deliver food and other products to the fairground and who helped in many other ways. By each of us working together, this year's booth was again a success. May God bless each one of you. Ernie Smith
CONGRATULATIONS

From our church: Sgt. Michelle Bowman ; A1C Jason Potoka
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW JOB DINNER FOR PASTOR LEE & SUE
Sunday, September 21 following 2nd Worship Service
On Sunday, September 21st we will be having a dinner honoring Pastor Lee & Sue for their ministry here at Center Bethel and for Pastor Lee's new position as Conference Director for the Allegheny Region. You are invited to attend the dinner honor and celebrate with them for their new ministry. The meal will be a covered dish dinner with meat, rolls, cake and beverage provided. You can bring a covered dish, salad or dessert other than cake. There will be a program following the meal in the fellowship hall. Pastor Lee's first day on his new job will be October 6th.
YOUTH NEWS
The youth are not having regular meetings over the summer but have activities planned. Check your Sunday bulletins for details.
Penny Pile Sunday will continue on the first Sunday of each month. Proceeds from the Penny Pile are taken to the rally and help to support Camp Sonrise Mountain.
CONFERENCE YOUTH LEADERS WORKSHOP Saturday, September 27, 1:00 p.m.
There will be a Youth Leaders Workshop here on Saturday, September 27th. We would urge all who are leaders in our youth programs to attend. This will be a time of discussing our youth groups and what we can do to improve our time with them. There will be loads of information, freebies, and door prizes, and also a very special first time event. See Pastor Lee for more information or if you plan to attend.
OFF TO COLLEGE
We have many students who are now heading off to college for another year. We would like to publish their names and addresses in next month's Flaming Sword. Please give their names and addresses to Donna or Pastor Lee no later than September 20th. Thank you!
WESTMORELAND COUNTY FAIR
Fair time is again over for another year. A complete report will be given in next month's Flaming Sword.
We'd like to extend a special Thank You to all who helped make the fair a success this year, to those who worked the fair booth, these who provided baked goods, those who helped here in the kitchen , those who transported food and other products to the fair and to you who remembered the fair in your prayers. Because of everyone working together, the fair booth was again a success.
SPECIAL CONCERT CANCELLED
Due to a scheduling problem Carrie Ferguson will not be able to be here for a concert on September 7th. We do however want to thank Carrie for thinking of us at Center Bethel and will try to schedule her when she will again be in our area.
A NEW PICTURE DIRECTORY
We are continuing to work on our new Picture Directory. We hope to have the directories ready for publication at the end of this month.
Thank you to all who had their pictures taken and those who submitted pictures of activities. A special thanks goes out to Lee & Sue Kline, Linda Potoka, Peggy Poole, Ruth Ann Poorbaugh and Greg Sullenberger who worked so hard over the summer to see this project become reality.
SCRAPBOOKING Friday, September 12, 7:00-? p.m.
Scrapbooking is continuing for the fall season. Meetings will be the second Friday of each month at 7:00 p.m. If you like to "scrap" or if you just need to organize your photographs, come and enjoy an evening of fellowship with other ladies who enjoy "scrapping."
The Memory Keepers are also selling homemade greeting cards for $1.00 apiece. There are a variety of cards including birthday, sympathy, get well, and for special days. All proceeds will go to Camp Sonrise Mountain for various projects. The cards are located on the table in the fellowship hall foyer. Just pick the ones you wish to purchase and drop your donation in the can provided.
ELEVATOR FUND
We currently have over $25,000 in the fund but much more is needed. If you would like to contribute to this fund, just put your donation in an envelope marked "Elevator" and put it in the offering plate. If you have any suggestions for fundraising events for the elevator project, please contact a member of the fundraising committee. They are Marvin Staggers, Ron Frey, Jane Frey, Bob Baker, Craig Sanner & Nick Ritz.
SAMARITAN'S PURSE OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
We are continuing to collect for our Shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child Program.
We continue to collect small toys such as slinkys, yoyos, jacks, jump ropes, magic erase boards, small dolls, cars and trucks, travel games, etc. Toys should be appropriate for boys and girls ages 2-14. We still need wash cloths, small travel size tubes of toothpaste, and unscented bars of soap. We also need pens, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, crayons, and AA batteries. We also need your prayers as we prepare these shoeboxes.
Baskets are located at the entryways for you to put your items in.
We will still need your shoeboxes and Christmas wrapping paper for the project. You can bring these in at any time.
We will be scheduling several evenings the latter part of October and the beginning of November to pack the shoeboxes. Shoeboxes will be dedicated on November 23rd and then taken to the distribution center in Greensburg.
THE MITTEN TREE
Again this year we will have the Mitten Tree to collect items to send to Gamerco and Hooghan Nizhoni, our missions to the Navajos in New Mexico.
We would ask that you begin bringing in school supplies such as pencils, pens, erasers, markers, rulers, pencil boxes, crayons, glue sticks, etc. We ask that you don't buy notebooks or paper because of the shipping costs. We would like to be able to ship some of these items to the mission stations prior to the start of school. We will also be collecting mittens, gloves, hats, scarves and other clothing items to be shipped to the Navajo. Boxes will be shipped in August and September. You can put your items under the Christmas tree in the fellowship hall foyer.
If you prefer, you can give a monetary donation to help pay for shipping or we can send it to the mission stations and they can buy items they need locally.
If you have any questions, please see Joan Neff or one of the WCSC/Missionary ladies for more information on this project.
NURSING HOME MINISTRY
Our next Nursing Home Ministry will be on Friday, September 5th at Harmon House in Mt. Pleasant. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please see Valerie Chearney.
“THE GATHERING”
“The Gathering” is a new non-traditional class that will begin on Sunday, May 4th. This class will be led by Becky Rodriguez and is open to couples and singles in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, with or without children. This class will focus on couples/singles with children between the ages of nursery through 6th grade.
Please join me in the prayer meeting room every Sunday from 9:45 am till 10:15 am as we discuss relevant topics and issues that our kids face in today’s society. We will be utilizing resources from Group Ministry and a newsletter developed by Parent Link. Light refreshments will be available from 9:30-9:45 for this gathering.
I invite you to drop off your children in our of our excellent Children’s Sunday School classes and casually make your way up to “The Gathering.”
Let me know if you have any questions. “The Gathering” is what I am calling this group for now. Hopefully once it starts up and we have attendance, I’m sure we will have a class name, but until then, this is what I was thinking.
Thanks! Becky Rodriguez
FOREVER FRIENDS ADULT CAMP September 29-October 3, At Camp Sonrise Mountain
There will be FUN, FELLOWSHIP, WORSHIP and BIBLE STUDY all designed to increase your faith and build your walk with God.
Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. on September 29th and camp will officially start with dinner at 5:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. we will have a concert by the Marker Family. The Marker Family is a true Gospel singing family consisting of Albert and Barbara Marker and their four daughters.
On Friday morning we will be going to the Springs Folk Festival. Other activities are planned throughout the week.
As adults we often think of camp as only being for children and youth. However, regardless of our age, we never outgrow our need for spiritual growth. We all need a time away from our busy lives where we can concentrate on our walk with God. Forever Friends Adult Camp gets us to an out-of-the-way place where we can appreciate God's Creation and fellowship with others in a God-centered environment and draw closer to Him.
The cost of camp is $140 total if you stay at the camp and $100 total if you do not stay overnight at the camp. Please see Donna or Pastor Lee for an application if you are interested in attending.
GLOBE BANKS FOR MISSIONS
This is a reminder that this year's Globe Bank Sunday will be September 21st. We don't have a designated missionary this year, but we do have a bigger mission field to do GOD's work in.
This year we are supporting our sister churches in Haiti. All money collected will be designated for CC2803 - Haiti Church Ministries.
If making out a check is your choice, please make it to Allegheny Regional Conference and mark in the memo section
Globe Bank" or CC2803.
If you do not have a bank and would like to have one for future use, please see John Horak or Pastor Lee and they will see that one is available for you.
Thanks for your support in advance; Mission Evangelism Commission, Allegheny Regional Conference
MESSIAH'S RIDERS
We believe that our youth are the future of this world. As believers in Jesus and His teachings, it is our duty to teach our youth about the Word of God, the promise of Jesus Christ, spread the good news of the Gospel. The Messiah's Riders raise funds to benefit the youth groups of our churches. In addition we support organizations and private needs outside our church where there is an opportunity to reflect the love of God and act out the teachings of Jesus. Visit The Messiah's Riders at www.messiahsriders.org
PRAYER WARRIORS
The Prayer Warriors meet the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month in the Prayer Meeting Room at 9:00 am for prayer. You are invited to join the group as they pray for needs within our church family and community.
There is a wooden box located in the Coat Room for your special prayer requests. Please indicate the person's name you wish prayer for and the need.
If you have borrowed or accidently carried home any items from the kitchen area would you please return them as soon as possible. Many of these items will be needed when we begin to prepare for the Westmoreland Fair next month.
Thank you, The Trustees

Newspaper Recycling
Did you know that you could help our community and environment at the same time? You can by saving your newspapers; an Alverton farmer shreds the newspaper, and then uses it for bedding for their cows. The Alverton Elementary School will be collecting newspaper for this recycling project. Our church is offering help on this recycling project by offering pick up to anyone who might not be able to get to the drop off. Any amount of paper is helpful. Check with other family members, businesses and friends to try to encourage more recycling of newspapers for this project. Newspapers sure can pile up.
Please use the following standards when collecting:
Bundle in neat stacks (easy to handle) in brown grocery bags - no plastic bags
No glossy prints - Please remove all advertisements and also any that may have staples
Do not tape or string bundles
Phone books are also accepted
Recycling can be rewarding. Help turn something already used into something useful again. Let's respect our God given environment and make it better for tomorrow by cleaning up today.
The next recycling drop off will be October 15th. Recycling is the third Saturday of each month during the school year. If you have any questions or need help getting your newspapers to the school call Jolene Cummins at 724-696-9367 for help.
They will take not only newspapers but also advertisement papers, catalogs, junk mail, etc. A recycling dumpster has been set up at the side of the building and is marked with the recycling symbol for this type of paper. All newspapers should be placed in a brown paper bag or tied securely with twine.
